Obama says Honduran ouster was ‘not legal’
Look, I’ll admit that I know less than nothing about Honduras and its politics. And I will also admit that it is seldom ‘legal’ when the Army decides to kick out the head of state. BUT…
Everyone in the fucking hemisphere now knows this bastard was trying to make an end run around the constitution he swore to uphold. Everybody with a pulse knows he was going to declare himself Supremo-for-life. Everybody knows he’s close pals with every Commie in Latin America.
Everybody, that is, except Barack Obama.
Our President. May the Lord God protect the Republic.

By way of a commenter at Front Porch Republic, I ran across this great piece by H.L. Mencken, written in 1920. The whole article is great, and worth remembering in the days when the Union is about to finally dissolve and the Republican Party meanders to its deserved grave. This small taste, regarding the Gettysburg Address:
The doctrine is simply this: that the Union soldiers who died at Gettysburg sacrificed their lives to the cause of self-determination—”that government of the people, by the people, for the people,” should not perish from the earth. It is difficult to imagine anything more untrue. The Union soldiers in that battle actually fought against self-determination; it was the Confederates who fought for the right of their people to govern themselves.
I ran across it by way of The Gunslinger.

After being at my duty post every duty day since Thanksgiving, and living on 24/7 dispatch, I am enjoying a week away. I was able to cut back some brush in the cool of the morning, and I have a slow-spinning Maytag washer to look at this afternoon.
Copious amounts of web-surfing will be done, hours of Warcraft and Total War whenever I want. and above all – the relaxation that comes from being unplugged from a high-stress workplace. I have a room-sized closet to build and a couple thousand mp3s to sort thru.
When I go back to work, I will have a new credo: Your problem is not my emergency. I will help you in any way I can, but I can no longer risk health and sanity to clean up your mess. I do not expect you to pull me out of my ditch, either.

Let’s face it, you’re not going to be successful at fighting zombies with a katana. I don’t care how many movies you’ve seen, learning to fight and win with any kind of edged weapon takes lots of training. Unless you’re going to spend a year of weekends studying the art of the blade, the first zombie to shuffle by is going to have you for lunch.
By all means, have a pistol and a rifle. You might get lucky and headshot a zed way out there with your .223, and a good pistol or large-bore revolver slows them down up close. But real zombie hunters know – it’s the 12-gage or nothing.
Can’t have too many, either. I keep one for myself and my wife, as well as one per vehicle. Pump shotgun, 12-gage, everybody needs a couple. Puts the dead back in Undead.
