A well-deserved day off

June 23, 2009

After being at my duty post every duty day since Thanksgiving, and living on 24/7 dispatch, I am enjoying a week away. I was able to cut back some brush in the cool of the morning, and I have a slow-spinning Maytag washer to look at this afternoon.

Copious amounts of web-surfing will be done, hours of Warcraft and Total War whenever I want. and above all – the relaxation that comes from being unplugged from a high-stress workplace. I have a room-sized closet to build and a couple thousand mp3s to sort thru.

When I go back to work, I will have a new credo: Your problem is not my emergency. I will help you in any way I can, but I can no longer risk health and sanity to clean up your mess. I do not expect you to pull me out of my ditch, either.

$1.6 Billion to Bailed-out Bank Execs

December 21, 2008

An AP study has found that $1.6B went to bailed-out bank execs.

Now they know the trap behind the bait: private business can do whatever it wants. Government-owned businesses (and that includes every single bailed-out bank, carmaker, and shoe store) has to do exactly what the government wants. How much do you bet that most of that money gets paid back within a week?

Felis Vomitus

December 9, 2008

Today, a colleague and I were discussing the disturbing predilection of Felis Domesticus, the common housecat, to forcefully regurgitate his expensive food immediately after ingestion. After I had made several pungent and brilliant points linking this behavior to hereditary factors, my esteemed friend ventured a few ignorant and poorly-constructed facts attempting to tie the phenomenon to an environmental cause.

While I refrained from the temptation to destroy his pitiful opinions with the power and majesty of science, I will indeed devote a paragraph in my dissertation to his obtuse and backward notions. Jackass.

Gunman tied to Pakistani group

November 30, 2008

See, it wasn’t terrorism after all.

My Way News – India claims Mumbai gunman tied to Pakistani group

Just “gunmen” tied to a “militant group.”  Nothing to fear.  The subtext being “Guns are bad, and the people who have them are bad.  Since we just can’t tie this group of gunmen to Islam, Isalm remains a religion of peace.”

Trampled in Wal-Mart

November 28, 2008

This is asinine.   Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede

Un-fuckin-beleevable.  This store, every store, so desperate for a little profit, builds up hopes so high that somebody might save ten bucks, that somebody has finally been trampled.  At the same time, ordinary people have bought into an artificial shopping myth that they actually KILLED A GUY!

Makes me ashamed to be a human.
